finale.jpgColaiste Eoin presented their 26th Annual Transition Year Show on the 30th and 31st of January. The TY show is a long standing and staple part of our students’ journey through Transition Year.

This year Transition years, under the direction of Ms O’Meara embarked on a new twist to the TY show and mashed up classic films and musicals to create “Dirty Grease”. Much to the love of the students who were cast as members from Dirty Dancing or the musical Grease. However the story took a contemporary twist and led us to Love Island where we saw our classic characters like Danny and Sandy getting to the bottom of the their drama.

Our TY students worked relentlessly on their play with intense sessions of choreography from the talented Caoimhe Byrne and let us not forget the dedication of Caoimhe’s mother Deirdre who directed the students in their performance skills and the execution of their scenes. Deirdre and Caoimhe instilled so much confidence and encouragement in the students which really was a pivotal component on the production.

Like every production there will always be circumstances outside of anyone’s control and this play was certainly no exception. The opening night of the show saw one of our main cast members Marty Walsh struck down with a vomiting bug, as Marty was Johnny from Dirty Dancing and we were only a little more than an hour before the show it could have been pandemonium. However the quick and collective decision by Ms O’Meara, Deirdre and Caoimhe to ask our 5th year student Sean Moran to step in resulted in the play going ahead. Huge credit and thanks to Sean Moran who modestly jumped into character, performed and danced just like he had been rehearsing for weeks. Thanks Sean.

Friday night saw all the cogs of the show sit into place, Marty had recovered and dressing room talks from Ms Farrell, Ms O Meara, Deirdre and Caoimhe echoed the same message “just have fun”.

Our TY’s certainty took that advice not only did they have fun, the show was entertaining and enjoyable, it had humour and depth , Well done Transition Years of 2019/2020, you all were amazing
